5.22.09

First off let me inform you on my whole ‘DJ’s posting a play-list on a website’ theory.  Post=! theft (!=ideas.  ..For future reference.).  Regardless of the huge anti self-promotional aspect of my theory.  If you do some sort of radio/podcast or something close to that nature, I see the purpose of a ‘play listing’.  But for a nightclub DJ, it’s pretty pointless.  I had this conversation with a couple DJ’s and they pointed out that people might not come to a gig based on what they think I/they might play and/or tracks on various play-lists I/they have around the ‘www’.  I could see the point of that, but in hindsight I think that is pretty dumb.  And very non adventurous.  Since DJ’s usually never play tracks that they really like at weekend gigs anyway.  I can go on about that subject for hours, so I think that is the best reason not to…

+ or -

Keep in mind when you read this that most (top-40) tracks are about 3.2 minutes long, and 9 times out of 10 a request conversation takes about 4.1 minutes.

”..Do you take requests?” | (NO.)”Sure.” | (BEAT IT.)”What do you want to hear?” | “You know that song..” | (Oh here we go..)”Which song?” | “You know…  The one that says, (mumble singing..)Start Me Up?” | (..???.. You should have thought about that more before you came over to FUCK UP MY MIX!)”Which one?” | “That song by Rihanna.” | (BEAT IT.)”Which one??” | “You know, (mumble singing..)Turn it up?  Or something like that.  I forgot..” | (..???..)”Disturbia?” | “Yeah ‘that’ one!” | (ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME.  ..Google that shit on your iPhone that you seem to not want to take your hands off of in the club (what is with that anyway?) before hand and just show it to me bitch-ass.)”Sure.”

The DJ is not a instantaneous jukebox.  You can ‘pay’ for requests of course, but just like the machine, you might not hear them when you want to.

Just a little tip for future reference.
